However, Bellerophon's story took a tragic turn when his success led to hubris.

He attempted to fly Pegasus to Mount Olympus, believing he deserved to join the gods.

Zeus, angered by this presumption, sent a gadfly to sting Pegasus, causing the horse to buck and throw Bellerophon back to earth.

Pegasus continued alone to Olympus, where Zeus welcomed him.

In Olympus, Pegasus found his true purpose, carrying Zeus's thunderbolts and serving the gods.

He was eventually honored by being transformed into a constellation, eternally visible in the northern sky.

The story of Pegasus became a symbol of poetic inspiration and divine inspiration, with the legend that wherever his hooves struck the earth, sacred springs would burst forth, most famously the Hippocrene spring on Mount Helicon, sacred to the Muses.
