However, when Agamemnon took his war prize, the maiden Briseis, Achilles withdrew from battle in anger.

This retreat proved costly for the Greeks, as the Trojans, led by their champion Hector, pushed them back to their ships.

Hector, Troy's greatest defender, was the complete opposite of the prideful Achilles.

He fought not for glory but to protect his city, family, and people.

When Hector killed Patroclus, Achilles' beloved friend who had borrowed his armor, Achilles returned to battle in a rage, seeking revenge.

The climactic duel between Achilles and Hector became legendary.

After chasing Hector three times around Troy's walls, Achilles finally confronted and killed him.

In his grief and anger, Achilles dishonored Hector's body by dragging it behind his chariot.

Only when Hector's father, King Priam, came to beg for his son's body did Achilles finally relent, showing a glimpse of humanity in his grief-stricken heart.
